The holidays are here! Whether you're enjoying the smell of a freshly baked holiday ham or curling up next to a cozy fire, the holidays are a time for joy, kindness, and reflection. However, for many of society's vulnerable, the holidays are filled with loneliness, fear, and bone chilling winter weather. They're not just our clients; they are our neighbors, coworkers, and friends. And you can help!
About Us:
If you’re around homeless services for very long, you quickly realize that the homeless need more than services. Those impacted by homelessness need acknowledgement, friendship, dignity, and a voice in their own paths. They need a trauma-informed environment that can absorb, alleviate and accompany over the long haul. They need a community that’s not just compassionate, but restorative. That's where we come in. For us, the service isn't where our mission ends. At the end of the day it's not about sandwiches, socks, or coats. It's about restorative community. Here at the Mosaic Village, we work to provide an interconnected ecosystem of support, encouragement, and accountability.
WRAP-A-FRIEND
So what does it mean to “Wrap-A-Friend?” We’re coming together to wrap our arms around our community’s most vulnerable members. But we don’t just want to wrap our friends in blankets, scarves, or resources, we want to wrap them in warmth, hope, and love. Here are some ways your gifts will uplift our community:
Wrap-A-Friend in Encouragement - $25:
A kind word, on the job training, someone to believe in you; our Jobs & Mentoring Academy is in it's second year thanks to our generous friends. However, we are always looking for additional resources to help with the little things that might bolster someone's success. Formal training, job certifications, personal resources - these are the things that propel our interns to the next level. Your gift will help contribute to the success of these individuals as they go our into the world to serve their communities.
Wrap-A-Friend in Safety - $50:
Did you know that studies show that a key factor in preventing pneumonia is brushing your teeth? Doing so removes harmful bacteria that can accumulate in your mouth and be inhaled into your lungs. Additionally, this bacteria can actually trickle down your throat and into your lungs causing aspiration. Your $100 gift will help us purchase hygiene items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, handwarmers, and emergency blankets which fill our emergency hygiene bags and are distributed to the unhoused and underserved on a daily basis.
Wrap-A-Friend in Comfort - $100:
For an individual living on the streets or insecurely housed, a clean pair of socks, underwear, or gloves, can feel like a much need hug. These things might seem like basic, no-brainer necessities, but the reality of the situation is that these "basics" become luxuries and symbols of comfort. Your gift of $100 would allow us to purchase approximately 48 pairs of gloves, 48 beanies, and 37 pairs of thick wool socks. As a monthly donation, your gift will help us meet seasonal needs year-round such as individually wrapped handwarmers in the winter, and sun-screen or cooling towels in the summer.
Wrap-A-Friend in Hope - $250:
We have a lot of different programs here that help support our restorative community ecosystem. As a provider of recovery services, we believe that the service itself is not where our mission ends. If you’re around homeless services for very long, you quickly realize that the homeless need more than services. Those impacted by homelessness need acknowledgement, friendship, dignity, and a voice in their own paths. They need a trauma-informed, restorative community. For us, that community is the deliverable. An investment in our Mosaic is an investment in restorative community, and we truely cannot do it without you.
Wrap-A-Friend in Love - $500:
Whether you're gathering with friends for a holiday meal or baking treats for your local bake sale, one thing is certain - food is love. With prices on the rise and benefits in jeopardy, we're seeing increases in both food insecurity and the utilization of services. It's tough out there for the average American, let alone the unhoused and underserved. But there is good news - YOU CAN HELP! Your $500 gift will provide approximately one months worth of meals for members at the Recovery Cafe!
These are of course just a few examples. No amount is too small (or too large)! Thank you, friends, for your consideration and gifts this holiday season! We are so grateful for all of the incredible staff, volunteers, clients, community partners, and donors who are apart of our beautiful mosaic. We wouldn't be us without you!
